| (Original
article date: July, 2006) Direct-to-Sew is well into its next phase
of development in which we are enhancing the system to create true
satin-stitch lettering for sewing on straight-stitch machines. As
with our current monogram-font-style lettering for straight-stitch
machines, the satin-stitch lettering is created on-the-fly with no
user intervention, driven directly by the order entry system. When
this phase of the product is complete, Direct-to-Sew coupled with
the Delta embroidery machine network will be the only system in the
industry to provide automated lettering any way you want it to any
machine on your production floor. The key to this new support for
satin-stitch lettering is the integration into Direct-to-Sew of
support for
Melco
DesignShop lettering style template files. The basic workflow is
represented below.

Melco DesignShop is used to create the basic lettering styles for
your sewn lettering work and to save your chosen parameters in style
files. DesignShop is a comprehensive editing environment that
provides access to all of the familiar satin-stitch lettering
parameters including underlay types, compensation, density, stitch
length and more. Any alphabet/font style you currently use can
easily be recreated in DesignShop for use in Direct-to-Sew
templates. Style files created in DesignShop are then imported into
Direct-to-Sew where they can be selected for use in Direct-to-Sew
satin-stitch lettering templates. The result is high-quality
satin-stitch lettering created on-the-fly with no user intervention
and available for download to any straight-stitch embroidery machine
connected to the Delta Industrial Sewing Network.
